Sine filters limit both the voltage rise rate (du/dt) and the peak voltages at the motor winding. Similar to an output inductor, they allow for the connection of longer motor cable lengths. Additionally, bearing currents are significantly reduced. Therefore, it is possible to operate standard motors with standard insulation and without insulated bearings on SINAMICS. The voltage stress on the motor winding is thus nearly at a level comparable to direct grid operation. Due to the very low voltage rise rates on the motor cable, the sine filter also positively impacts electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
