Yes, it works. That's exactly why I bought this docking station.
You could also use an external housing for the M.2 NVME SSD. However, this makes little sense if you have to remove the SSD immediately after installation.
For cloning, I would recommend a good programme (Acronis True Image) or (AOMEI Backupper) so that the system partitions are also cloned correctly. In my case, I made a clone from my internal 1TB M.2 SSD to 2TB (docking station). Swapped and it worked without any problems. Conclusion. Very good product ;-)

In principle, this is possible, but be careful if the notebook is set up from scratch. Then the docking station may not be recognised immediately.

If your computer is equipped with a program to clone data, there should be no problem, you should be able to make an exact copy of that within it.
