Do you have the option to deactivate "Encrypt phone memory" on the device? Because with encryption activated, it is no faster than my M8. It's also active after the reset.

Since Android 6.0, new smartphones must be delivered with hardware encryption switched on [1]. It may well be that the option cannot be deactivated. I also agree with damukles: the encryption takes place in the hardware and from my own experience I can say that the influence is hardly noticeable (based on experiences with Moto G 1st Gen and Nexus 5/5X/6P/7). The fact that the hardware takes care of the encryption is also one of the main reasons why Google has made encryption mandatory.

I assume you can switch this off under Settings -> Security. But mine is enormously fast even with encryption. I think the impact is very small, the encryption is now done on dedicated hardware chips and not with the CPU.
