To make sure that the device can be unlocked to install GrapheneOS, avoid carrier variants of the devices. Carrier variants of Pixels use the same stock OS and firmware with a non-zero carrier id flashed onto the persist partition in the factory. The carrier id activates carrier-specific configuration in the stock OS including disabling carrier and bootloader unlocking. The carrier may be able to remotely disable this, but their support staff may not be aware and they probably won't do it."
Hello,
I am writing this message from a Pixel8 from Digitec with GrapheneOS installed. Everything went smoothly. Bootloader unlocking without problems.
Super OS, but you lose all AI from Google.
To answer the question: these are not carrier versions. They mostly only exist in the US.
Therefore I believe you can do what you are looking to.
But my personal opinion: if you wish to use this OS, don't buy a Pixel.
Pixel phones are the only ones with the 100% Android experience and without the bloatware like Samsung or others.
If you install a different OS, I would assume that you lose all that is good about Pixel phones, and it would probably not function as designed.
And if it's a question about security, the Pixels let you chose permissions per app, what you allow and when to allow it. I see more security and privacy options on my Pixel than on my friend's iPhones or Samsungs.
