I had also "pre-ordered" directly when it started and had assumed that I could then also expect a corresponding delivery on release day. This is bordering on deliberate customer deception. Very annoying. So next time I'll order directly from Apple again.

I don't think so, because if you order directly from Apple, the waiting time is also until about October.
However, who knows, Digitec will already receive various devices tomorrow, which could be the case in any case.

Then you might be lucky and get the iPhone as one of the first ;)
