I still have a 5V 3A charger from LG. Can I use this too or is the current too high? [The charger supplied with the S8 is 5V 2A).

Should work. Operate the dock with a Rav Power. USB C is rated at 3 A.

The charging station only draws as much current as it needs. So it's not a problem, with USB the current cannot be too high.
