Is the protective cover that comes with the phone any good? Otherwise, there probably won't be a large selection of usable alternative covers at Huawei? Is the battery life really that weak?

The cover that comes with it is perfect. Very stable and not too bulky.

For Huawei there are exactly the same covers as you got for your old iPhone. The only difference is that you can't buy them for Huawei in Switzerland for too high a price, but you can get them much cheaper directly from the manufacturer via aliexpress.com. The battery is not outstanding for the price, but lasts easily for a day.
