The comparison page (only there) states that OLEDs are used for the backlight. Is this true?

A very good question. If you google "TV test: QLED vs OLED", you will find a good graphic about the structure of QLED and OLED. My understanding is that QLED is a type of LCD display with Edge LED backlighting. QLED and OLED are the names of two differently constructed displays. So you can't say that QLED has a backlight with OLEDs. They are Edge LED.
