The Iphone 13 pro max has a camera wide: ƒ/1.5 aperture, iphone 16 pro max only ƒ/1.78 aperture - I'm trying to categorise this now because it sounds more like a step backwards to me? .... but I'm not a camera pro, hence my question! i know that the 13 is all 3 12 mp cams, but with iphone 16 there are still only 2/3 front cams with more than 12 MP, and 1 still on 12 mp, 12 mp was already rather disappointing 3 years ago - maybe the MP are not important at all?

Hello Mordimag

The IPhone 16 Pro Max takes great photos. To your question the IPhone 16 Pro Max has 2 48 MP cameras. The normal one has 48 MP and the wide angle one has 12 but I say you rarely zoom in far.
To your question about the aperture, cameras or lenses with high resolutions and small apertures are very expensive and I think that's why the aperture is higher.

And the MP are important but the size of the sensor (where the MP are on it) is more important so the IPhone usually takes nicer pictures because the MP are not as crowded as with Samsung it doesn't do you any good to have 200 MP but you can't arrange them nicely.
