Wanted to charge 2 new AAA batteries with it today. None were recognised. Has anyone else had the same problem?

I have the same problem, the charger charges Varta batteries but not Energizer batteries -> the charger is weak as a bag and will become electronic waste for me.

Can it be that it only charges when all or at least 2 batteries are plugged in at the same time?
Were the 2 new AAA also from Varta?
