Yes, unfortunately there is no remedy for this. But compared to older Roborocks with brushes instead of the rollers, they collect at the edge and are easier to remove. They also catch less than with older models.
The S7 offers few advantages over the S5 Max. An S7 can be supplemented with an optional vacuum station and has a cleaning function that can lift the cleaning pad onto the carpet. Navigation is also good on both. The S6 MaxV would offer a real advantage in navigation, as it can use the built-in cameras to recognise 3D objects, i.e. it can recognise a scale on the floor as a scale and can also bypass other recognised objects without simply closing the IR the sensors leave.

With the S7, you can reduce the amount of water with the electronic pump, there are 3 levels. I've never read about cotton pads as an accessory for hoovers. They always have microfibre cloths. However, the wiping function of the S7 is a bit more extreme than, for example, the much cheaper Roborock S6 MaxV, it has no vibra function and just pulls the pad over the floor. I think that shouldn't be so bad.
The S6 MaxV also has a much better navigation, because in addition to the laser for accurate maps and positioning, it also uses the 3D object recognition with the image database stored in the robot to avoid objects.
Maybe the Roborock S6 MaxV is a better alternative? It is certainly gentler than the S7, which can really scrub the floor with the pad. If there are cotton pads, they will also fit the Roborock S6 MaxV.

Yes it can, thanks to the laser LIDAR system. It creates a map on the first run, which can then be edited and, if necessary, the rooms can be divided up. Afterwards, you can either have it vacuum everything, or you can have it vacuum only one room, for example.
In general, all Roborock hoovers can do this, the ones from Xiaomi or Dreame as well, for best navigation they have this little tower on top where the constantly rotating laser measures the rooms. The robot also knows exactly where it is.

My fiancée (I'm allowed to brag a bit) has hairs almost up to her ankle, they are also very robust and we also have 2 cats in the house (medium length hair). This hair is constantly wrapped around the red roller and the rotating thing but the hoover handles it very well and as a lazy person I don't clean it every day, although it would really be amazingly easy but for me it is enough every 6-8 weeks to pull everything apart and cut off the felt with the knife and put everything together. And on it goes.
The purchase of the S7 MaxV is worthwhile if you want the additional security that the 3D object detection should be able to avoid objects. Shoes or socks lying around, for example. Of course, this does not work 100% reliably, but it is much better to have a hoover that can at least recognise something that is still lying around on the floor and that makes an arc in front of lamp bases and scales without permanently bumping into the objects.
I wouldn't disregard the S6 MaxV either, it can also recognise 3D objects. The advantage of the S7 and S7 MaxV would be the wiping plate, which can be raised when driving on carpet, but if you don't need the wiping function so urgently, the S6 MaxV also has very good 3D object recognition and costs considerably less than an S7 MaxV:

Yes, that works, the Roborock S7, S6 JMaxV or S5 Max have a sensor on the side with which it can detect whether it is driving close to a wall. However, it does drive relatively close to the walls because it also has to get the dust and dirt out of the corners with the side brush. However, there is also a rubber lip around the side of the housing, but this is not extended further at the sensor unit. The robot stops in front of objects, of course, as it also has a laser sensor at the top with which it can measure distances. For even better navigation, however, the Roborock S6 MaxV would be suitable, because it also has 3D object recognition with cameras and can also recognise objects with the built-in database.
The Roborock S7 has laser navigation and also infrared sensors. This allows it to brake in front of objects. There are situations, e.g. with a round table leg that is not too wide, where it would move carefully around these chair legs, the side IR sensor also helps.
However, the Roborock S6 MaxV currently offers the best navigation. It has an integrated 3D object recognition. It can recognise objects by means of cameras. The navigation is also done with laser and IR, but it would have a bit more possibilities to avoid hitting things. As a rule, the robots with laser navigation are extremely careful.
Laser navigation is very helpful for object detection in general, because the robot recognises where it is, creates precise maps and stops when something is close to it. The technology has its limits with smaller objects, of course, but the Roborock S6 MaxV would be able to recognise lamp bases or scales on the ground as such. It would also be a little cheaper at Digitec.
