Thomas was founded in 1903 by Fritz Thomas in Marktredwitz, Upper Franconia, and acquired the porcelain factory "F. Thomas, Marktredwitz" in 1908. In 1960, porcelain production was moved from the Marktredwitz plant to the newly built "Thomas am Kulm" plant in Speichersdorf/Upper Franconia, whose facade was designed by Italian architect Marcello Morandini with geometric patterns.
