I have a VTC. It's a mid-range bike, in other words nothing special for an adult bike. Nevertheless, it weighs 16 kg. Is this rack limited to children's bikes or adult carbon bikes?

No it is not limited to children's bikes, there is a total limit of 30kg given by the manufacturer. Sometimes there is a lower limit depending on the car model and the type of boot. But on the thule website you can usually find this information!
