Master Gepetto is an older wood carver. He is not necessarily rich, but lives in poor circumstances. From his friend Kirsche, a master carpenter, he gets a wooden block as a present. Because when he wanted to work cherry in, he suddenly began to speak. Gepetto is enthusiastic about the wooden block and uses it to make a wooden doll, which he calls Pinocchio.
