Whenever new horses or ponies arrive at Lakeside, they are first taken to the horse pasture. There, they are allowed to spend some time grazing peacefully. This is very important to Hannah's father, as it allows the horses to greet each other, get accustomed to one another, and perhaps even form friendships.
