Honor Magic Vs: Folding smartphone to be available worldwide
Honor has unveiled the second generation of its foldable smartphone and plans to offer the Magic Vs worldwide in 2023.
The folding principle of the Honor Magic Vs is similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. On the outside, you look at a 6.45-inch display and can use a 7.9-inch touchscreen after unfolding. The display shares the new smartphone with its predecessor Magic V, but features a new processor and a larger battery.
Displays unchanged, many new components inside
. The Magic Vs has the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and the battery has a capacity of 5000 mAh - the Magic V has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 4750 mAh. Fast charging with up to 66 watts via the power adapter, however, remain unchanged. This also applies to the features of the displays: the outer display with a resolution of 2560 × 1080 pixels comes with a refresh rate of up to 120 hertz. The almost square inner display has 2272 × 1984 pixels and 90 hertz.
While the predecessor had all three cameras with 50 megapixels, the Magic Vs now has three different resolutions. The main camera has the Sony IMX800 image sensor with 54 megapixels. The wide-angle lens has 50 megapixels and the telephoto camera with triple optical zoom only eight megapixels. For the two selfie cameras on the inside and outside, Honor has reduced the resolution to 16 megapixels - from 42 megapixels. Which does not automatically mean poorer image quality.
The software - MagicOS 7.0 - is still based on Android 12, and is said to include several new features that improve multitasking on the foldable. Nevertheless, the old Android version is no longer up to date for a new smartphone. Android 13 should be on board with new launches.
Available outside China from 2023
. Price and availability information is currently only available for China. Honor is now accepting pre-orders for the Magic Vs and plans to start shipping it there at the end of November. The cheapest variant with eight and 256 gigabytes of memory costs the equivalent of about 1000 euros, or francs. Unlike Vivo at X90 Pro Plus, Honor has directly announced plans to sell its foldable smartphone outside China in 2023.
