iOS 14.6 is here! Check out all the innovations arriving on iPhone

The two biggest changes made for iOS 14.6 implement announcements that Apple made recently: lossless support for Apple Music and podcast subscriptions.

Less than a week after announcing lossless playback for songs via Apple Music starting in June, the necessary software update has arrived to iPhone and Co. Lossless playback will still not be enabled until June, however. Just like support for Spatial Audio. This extends to hardware: Apple's previous headphone models will not support lossless audio for Apple Music.

Podcast subscriptions

Apple had also announced the introduction of paid podcast subscriptions. The prerequisites for this have now been released with iOS 14.6, offering podcasters the possibility to sell subscriptions and earn money via in-app purchases. Other changes to the podcast app aren’t locked behind a paywall: you can now play all episodes, restore all episodes and delete downloads.

AirTags

IOS 14.6 also offers improvements on the new AirTags. In Lost mode, for example, you can now enter an e-mail address on top of your phone number. In addition, an AirTag will now supposedly display its owner's partially unrecognizable phone number when paired with an NFC-enabled device.

Apple AirTag review: better than the competition?

In addition, iOS 14.6 fixes problems and bugs; for example, unlocking with the Apple Watch or blank lines in the Reminders app. The call blocking extension should appear reliably in the settings again. Apple also claims to have fixed problems with Bluetooth-connected calls, as well as possibly reduced performance when starting the iPhone.

And since Apple Music Lossless and the podcast subscriptions aren't just meant to be used on iPhone, they're also included in updates to iPadOS 14.6, macOS 11.4, and watchOS 7.5, in addition to bug fixes.

When I was but a young student, I'd sit in my friend's living room with all my classmates and play on his SuperNES. Since then I've had the opportunity to test out all the newest technology for you. I've done reviews at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, and have now arrived at Galaxus.de.
