«Loki» will be back for Season 2 – ft. Deadpool?
After «Loki» is before «Loki». For the very first time, Disney is renewing an MCU series. What’s more, Deadpool may soon make an appearance.
It’s official: Disney has renewed the Marvel series «Loki» for a second season. However, the announcement wasn’t made in the form of an official press release. Instead, it appeared in a mid-credits scene at the end of the sixth and final episode of «Loki», Season 1.
«Loki will return in Season 2,» it says in writing.
It’s not yet known if other Marvel series – like «WandaVision» or «The Falcon and the Winter Soldier» – will be renewed on Disney+.
Deadpool soon to join the MCU?
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) are already speculating whether Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, could be part of the second season. Disney, the parent company of Marvel, has held the rights to said Marvel character since its acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019. In addition, MCU President Kevin Feige confirmed in an interview with Collider that while shooting for «Deadpool 3» wouldn’t start before next year, the movie is officially part of the MCU and will receive an R-rating.
Fans are now making the connection between the planned movie and «Loki». What’s their reasoning? Timing. On the day of the Season 2 announcement, Ryan Reynolds released a new trailer on his private YouTube channel. In it, he mimics the popular «reaction videos» on Youtube, in which people react to something and put in their two cents.
And his guest commentator is none other than Korg from «Thor: Ragnarok».
In the video, Ryan Reynolds not only takes the piss out of his upcoming movie «Free Guy» but also pokes fun at Disney, «Cruella», Disney+ and Marvel. Those are enough clues to make a connection to an upcoming Disney+ series.
Namely, to the very series that was just renewed for a second season today.
«Loki»: what’s it all about?
Tom Hiddleston plays the titular character, «Loki», God of Mischief. His failure to escape with an Infinity Stone has put him on the radar of the Time Variance Authority, a bureaucratic organisation responsible for maintaining order in the looming chaos of multiple timelines.
Tom Hiddleton had already hinted at Season 2 of the show before the finale. In an interview with entertainment news website Deadline he said, «I have learned, at this point, having said goodbye to the character more than twice, two and a half times maybe, to make no assumptions.»
