Cable ties, an all-rounder drill and an Allen key: the Galaxus Community has helped me complete my toolbox. Allow me to introduce their favourites.

In my last article «Toolbox essentials for DIY projects», I asked the Galaxus Community what was missing from my toolbox. I’d like to share the many good tips that poured in with you now.

The best tools according to our Community

Screwdriver with (almost) all the essential bits

This product was new to me, and now I want it. The screwdriver contains 13 double-sided bits: Phillips, slotted, Torx, hexagon and Pozidriv.

Drill

Even the best drill is useless without a drill bit. Galaxus readers recommend this Bosch set as it works on stone, metal and wood.

Cable ties

Go for longer rather than shorter ones. You can always chop a bit off, but sticking it back on is near impossible.

Safety gloves

I’ve managed to cut my hand several times while working on DIY projects, so I need to protect them. According to the manufacturer, this model is cut- and puncture resistant.

Superglue

Handy for repairing bits and bobs. However, you’ll have to get a new tube quite regularly, as they tend to stick together at some stage. Grumble.

Inch stick

You should get two of these, because you’re bound to misplace it. Believe me, I know what I’m talking about.

Sanding block

Available with different grits. I mainly use it to sand off the caked-in poo on my cockatiels’ toys.

Hex key

A hex key is great to assemble furniture or bicycles. Choose between inexpensive and plain or expensive and colourful.

By the way, I’ve deliberately left out products for the garden or car because I don’t own either. In other news, I really love browsing the following departments in DIY stores:
