As far as we know, picture AND sound are transmitted via HDMI. I am not sure what happens if a second audio output is connected to the unit. Normally this should send all audio signals to all outputs. Whether this really corresponds to the fact ... I have an almost similar construction. I connected a media box to the TV via HDMI and connected an amplifier from the TV via the headphone output. Then some configuration on the TV and it worked.
