1 holder each for negative strips and slides is included. If you want to save a little time, order a second one, which you can fill while scanning the first one.

For info, here is the homepage, in case you want to contact Plustek directly: https://plustek.com/deu... If Silverfast 8 SE Plus is still included, then the software only runs with Intel Mac. Here is the datasheet: https://www.silverfast.com/download... And also the current version Silverfast 9 SE Plus only runs with Rosetta 2 emulation on ARM Macs. In summary: Silverfast is not ready yet.

Yes I use a MacBook with Big Sur 11.1. However, the supplied SW cannot be used because it is outdated and not compatible with Big Sur(1). I bought SilverFast 9 myself, but according to the manufacturer BigSur is supported from version 8.8. (1) at least that was the case when I bought the device....

First of all: the hardware dust removal (via infrared scan) only works with colour slides or colour negative films. Black and white films have to be corrected with an image processing programme. Scanning times at 3600dpi vary slightly depending on the scanning programme. With the included Silverfast it takes about 150 seconds. It is a little faster with the great Vuescan (https://www.hamrick.com), which is not included in the scope of delivery, but takes about 120 seconds. In addition to the scan times mentioned above, you have to add - optionally - about 15 seconds for the preview scan.

No. You can't. What kind of slide format is this? Standard sizes are: 24 mm × 36 mm, 4.5 cm × 6 cm, 6 cm × 9 cm and 6 cm x 20 cm. Formats outside these standard sizes can only be digitised by taking photographs.

Does the software also run on OS X / MAC ?

Yes, the latest version of the software for Mac can be downloaded from the Silverfast website (registration required). The software is available for Windows and Mac OS X. The latest Silverfast software requires at least OS X 10.7. The software itself is not a hit and is cumbersome and slow to use and post-process. But there is almost nothing else. Most good image software solutions do not support this kind of scanning. This seems to be a known problem.

You can load 35mm negatives, or slides (transparencies), and then transfer them to the PC where you can post-process the image. If you have strips of negatives, you can put them in the supplied negative holder, but you have to change the position manually.

Is the scanner also suitable for b/w films?

Yes, it is suitable for all types of negatives and slides. Above all, the software that comes with it goes straight to A. With a small drop of bitterness.... the software only works if no other printer or scanner is connected, otherwise there is a conflict.
