The new 2020 Synology models DS420+, DS720+ and DS920+ have a 3-year warranty. The warranty can even be extended to 5 years with the article "EW201". I am interested in buying a Synology NAS but I am new to this business. Can I connect this NAS to the network via a mesh network terminal? I have a Linksys Velop mesh network and each terminal has two ethernet ports. The router is not in the ideal place to put the NAS, so I am looking for confirmation that this is feasible before I make the purchase.

Your router will give it an IP and it will be reachable in your local network. The terminals act as a switch.

I would like to replace my ds220+ with the ds420+. For the ds220+ I had a memory expansion in use -> Crucial Laptop Memory (1 x 8GB, DDR4-2666, SO-DIMM 260 pin) / CT8G4SFRA266. Can anyone tell me whether this module is compatible with the ds420+?

The DS220+ and DS420+ have the same CPU, the RAM can also be used in the DS420+ NAS. If it ran in the DS220+, no problem. The DS420+ has 2GB RAM, maybe that's enough for my requirements. What do I need the additional M2 cache for, is it necessary? Which memory modules do you need for it? Thanks!

Hoi Well, whether the 2GB is enough definitely depends on your requirements: If you "only" use NAS file server functions, then the 2GB is enough. If you want to install and use applications such as groupware (keyword "Photostation") or Surveilance Station etc. pp. then it could be a bit tight. As information from one Syno user to another: I use 3 models: an older DS409+ (RAM never removed, worked quite well without), a DS415play (RAM also not removed, would have made more sense over time, but:) and a RS3617xs - and I have now removed the RAM to 32GB because it simply makes sense on this part (Nextcloud, Apache, Containers, Plex ...)..) - My tip: Just use it "as is" and as soon as you notice: it's going down the drain with all the apps I use: then expand it. You need the M2Cache if you want to access the same rather small data/files/especially blocks more quickly - probably more for corporate environments - here's something from Synology's KB about it: https://kb.synology.com/de-de/DSM/help/DSM/StorageManager/genericssdcache?version=6 Hope that helps.

My DS415+ from 2013 is now broken. I can pull out the discs and put them in the 420+ model without any problems?

That's exactly what I did: 415+ broke down from one day to the next (probably a known hardware fault), bought 420+ => changed disks and simply started it. Everything ran without a problem. Instructions for details are available at Synology.

Yes, that is possible. It is best to use the SHR, then you can also expand the RAID.
