Does it matter whether I use HDMI 2.0 or 2.1? Or does the first generation already support 2.1?

The first generation supports "only" HDMI 2.0a, which is still the current sand.
Theoretically, a resolution of up to 10K and 120 Hz transmissions are possible with HDMI 2.1. Whether it matters therefore depends largely on which device you want to connect the Apple TV to.
