WD Red as an external backup disk

I have a synology NAS and would like to create an onsite backup via USB (in addition to offsite backup to 2nd NAS). By chance I still have 2 WD RED with enough capacity left. Could I now use a WD RED as an external hard drive, so to speak, with a Sata3 to USB3 converter and place it next to my NAS as a backup disk? Or is there anything against it (sure, it doesn't look nice, but it saves a bit of money)? Thanks for your input!

USB-SATA for 12 TB hard disk

Looking for a USB-SATA adapter that is suitable for hard drives over 2 TB (specifically a WD Gold 12 TB). What can you offer/ do you recommend?

Connect USB 3.0 hard disk from eSata socket?

I have an eStata socket on my NAS and would like to connect my USB 3.0 hard drive to it. Since the hard drive has its own power supply, I don't need power via the USB port. Is there such an adapter?
