Packaging for the future: visiting our manufacturer in China

We’ve made a conscious decision to keep the packaging for Digitec and Galaxus’s own-brand products simple – with the aim to be entirely plastic-free in future. In order to find more sustainable solutions, we wanted to see where they’re made for ourselves.

We could make it easy for ourselves and shrink-wrap our own-brand products in cheap plastic. But we’re not doing that. We want to make the packaging as sustainable as possible. Trade Brand Managers Yannick Cejka and Osman Erdogan travelled to the packaging manufacturer in China to make this happen. To their surprise, the factory is bigger and more professional than they expected. Plus, the factory’s already working on alternative designs that completely do without plastic.

Watch the video to find out what this new packaging could look like and what’s behind its production.

As a Multimedia Producer, preparing multimedia content and knowing about cutting-edge technology is my business. My main focus at digitec is producing videos. I can’t wait to try out new products such as cameras, drones or smartphones as soon as they’re launched. This is where being at the source comes in rather handy. When I’m not working, I’m probably skiing, biking or hiking – the mountains are my place to be.
