Humax recommends an external USB 3.0 hard drive with up to 1 TB (1000 GB) of storage. Whether larger USB drives with more than 1 TB are also recognised must first be tested. If you use an external hard disk with only USB 2.0, the number of recordings that can be made at the same time may be reduced because the data cannot be written fast enough at the same time via USB 2.0. Connecting the hard disk with the recordings to the laptop and playing them back is not possible. However, since you want to stream (HDD with the recordings remain connected to the receiver), this would work.
